It's Sweet to Meet You

When it comes to writing, I've published in American Theatre, Creative Nonfiction, Baltimore Style, Flea Market Insiders, CityScope & HealthScope, and lots of regional magazines. (I pitch my tail off!)

And my work appears in literary journals too, like The Loch Raven Review, Furious Gazelle, Broad River Review and more. My creative nonfiction has been nominated for a Pushcart Prize (twice!). I know, they say it's lame to mention this if you've only been nominated. But there's a lot of tough competition out there to get past to even get the nod.

Did I mention I write plays? These have received full productions at the Manhattan Repertory Theatre, Palace Theatre, Pumpkin Theatre and Potomac Playmakers, among others. I received an Individual Artist Award in Playwriting from the Maryland State Arts Council. (That felt awesome!)

...This is where I'm supposed to talk about myself in the third person. They say it should go something like, Holly Morse-Ellington is a...but nah, that gives me the shudders.

So simply put – I'm a writer. I'm an actor. I'm a director. And no, I don't do these cool things for free. And for all you writers, actors, and directors out there who get that we can enjoy our profession AND get paid for our work, let's connect! (Because I like your style!)

Holly Morse-Ellington
Seen here reading a tabloid. I leave no stone unturned.

Oh! And I'm the copy chief for Moxie Copywriting and I get to work with a dynamic group of boss writers in the world of direct response marketing. BTW, anyone need FB ads?!

But wait, there's more! I direct plays and act. Many of these productions are with casts of kiddos from middle school to high school. And lately I've had a lot of "spa days." But instead of getting manis and pedis, this means I'm a simulated patient actor. Students in the family nurse practitioner program at the University of Tennessee-Chattanooga hone their skills as I simulate different scenarios of ailments.

In my free time, I'm up to more creative creation of things from short films to podcasts (and more plays). I somewhat play the ukulele – three chords and the truth – and write songs to put into my plays. (Think plays with music, not musicals.) What I love, love, love to do in addition to all of the above is play in the dirt and plant pretty things. And hit up estate sales. Old stuff was beautifully crafted and has a history. So of course antiques and vintage spark my imagination to return to what I do, tell stories.
